The House of Representatives Deputy Chief Whip, Otunba Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga Ijaya has join the Ewusi of Makun Kingdom to visit the historical Obaruwa groove.

In a bid to unite worshippers of Obaruwa Festival with the diaspora counterparts and leagues of dignitaries such as Ogun State Commissioner for Special Duties, Honourable Olufunmilayo Efuwape among others on Saturday, Ewusi road at Makun from Ita-oba down to High court road was on still for hours.

In the Yoruba traditional religion, groves are places reserved for rituals. The Obaruwa groove is credited with the founding and establishment of Makun town some decades ago.

The Obaruwa Festival was also created to re-establish the mystic bonds between the ancestors and the people of the town. It occurs annually over a seven-day period in February. Thousands attend this festival, sustaining the living cultural traditions of the Yoruba people.

The festival invokes the spirits of the ancestor kings and rededicates the present Oba to Obaruwa, as well as reaffirms and renews the bonds between the deities represented in the sacred Grove and the people of Makun. The finale of the festival is a procession of the festival’s attendants, led by the traditionalists and the Oba and priests, accompanied by drumming, singing and dancing.
