Ridsco-Lafarge Dolls Out Bursary Cheques To 100 Indigent Students, As 40 Graduates Of Skills Acquisition Benefits Start Up Tools In Sagamu

The Chairman Royal Initiative for the Development of Sagamu Community, (RIDSCo), Mr Sammy Ogunjimi on Friday 24th of November 2023, released bursary awards of N75k each to 100 indigent students of Sagamu origin in public Tertiary Institutions and Start-Up Tools worth N10m to graduates of the Skills Acquisition Scheme at a well attended event held at Remo Traditional Council Hall, Aafin Akarigbo, Ita-Oba, Sagamu. The beneficiaries are drawn from Sagamu Local Government.

The RIDSCo Chairman, Mr Sammy Ogunjimi also used the occasion to present the ongoing projects being executed by his administration to denounce non-performance being spread within the locality.

He listed the projects to include the supply of medical equipment and completion of Igbepa Health Centre, renovation and supply if medical equipment to Isote Health Centre, construction of culverts at strategic locations to link up communities at Imeko, Sanuyi, Isoso, Ibelefun, Igbosoro, renovation of School Halls at Ode-Lemo Community High School and Batoro Community Grammar School, Borehole and Toilets, among several others.

Mr Sammy explained that the delay in executing these projects was procedural caused by operational changes in our donor, Lafarge’s systems, which had been adequately taken care of this year and will not affect 2024 projects. He spoke glowingly of his predecessor, Olootu Omoba M.O. Oyedele’s administration.

Com Adekunle Bello, who is the Chairman of the 2023 Bursary Awards Scgeme reported that 266 students applied online for the exercise, 203 attended the written test, 63 were disqualified for various reasons including not being an indigene of Sagamu Local Government, students of private institutions and not in penultimate class of their studies.

He went further that 40 scored below 35 which was the benchmark while the 100 successful students are hereby presented as bursary awardees for the year 2023.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Skills Acquisition Scheme, Engr Adebayo Osiberu stated that the 40 Graduates are trainees who have engaged with their Trade Masters for an upward of 2 to 3 years depending on their respective trades.

Osiberu listed the trades as Tailoring and Fashion Designing, Hair Dressing, Make-up Artists, Welding and Fabrication, Furniture and Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical and Electronics. Also, he informed the gathering that the Scheme is being reworked to ensure that trainees truly stays at work starting from 2024.

Flagging off the payment of the bursary awards and presentation of the Start-up Tools, Mr Sammy Ogunjimi applauded His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, cfr, Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo land for appointing him and others in RIDSCo Executive and his fatherly support at all times which led to the success of the event.

Speaking earlier, HRM Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, cfr, said the RIDSCo Chairman, Mr Sammy Ogunjimi has overtime shown deep interest in educational advancement, growth and development of his people and always ready to serve diligently.

HRM Oba Akarigbo stated further that it was for those reasons that he was so confident to appoint Mr. Sammy to sustain the records of the then outgoing Chairman, Olootu Omoba M.O. Oyedele who by all standards is a star performer.

HRM Akarigbo enjoined the youths to eschew violent act and shun cultism as there are programmes in the pipeline to make them worthy in life. He congratulated and prayed for the beneficiaries. He urged them to pursue their futures legitimately as there is light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Being a digital century Royal Father, Akarigbo has the interests of the youths at heart, this he has proven in every given opportunity to lobby for his people, Mr Yemi Bakare, the State Relations Manager of Lafarge Africa Plc (South West) said.

Bakare also described the partnership between his Company and RUDSCo as the yardstick to measure his company’s Coroorate Social Responsibility performance.

Earlier in his welcome address, the newly appointed RIDSCo Chairman,, Mr Sammy Ogunjimi said he came to serve, conscious of the fact that he will someday render account of his stewardship to the people.

”I will definitely do my best to leave behind a remarkable impact on the lives of the people of Sagamu Local Government by bringing in more investors that will by competitions laid possible impacts in our peoples life”.

Sammy stated that all the projects executed by his administration will have direct impact on the lives of Sagamu Indigenes and her citizens as they were all undertaken according to compelling needs.

Some of the beneficiaries of the bursary awards who spoke with The Eaglesforesight correspondent expressed delight and gratitude to the benefactors for their benevolence, stressing that this is not the first time our people will be reached out to, with a Bursary package.

Others at the event are HRH Alayeluwa Oba Oriyomi Musiliu Soile, Radanuwa of Idado, the Vice Chairman of RIDSCo, Pharm (Mrs) Funmilayo Odusoga, Sir Teju Ogunjimi, Hon Adeyiga T. Awoyemi, Bamofin Bayo Onafuwa, Chief of Staff to Akarigbo, Biodun Aina, the State Secretary of NYCN, Com Zamora, Coordinator of NYCN Sagamu Chaoter, Com Oluwole Aduroja, acting President of Sagamu Youth Association, Com Oluseun Onabajo and the Admin Manager of RIDSCo, Mr Lukman Owo Banjoko.

The Trade Masters, friends and relatives of the beneficiaries also attended the ceremony.
