Exclusive: The Underreported Stories About Nigeria Immigration Service, Sagamu Passport Office

It is no longer a News that due to economic depressions, Nigerians are leaving the county in their thousands to flee from economic hardship and low standard of living. However, there are some also, that were leaving for medical, education, visiting and other reasons.

So many Nigerians are leaving and that pushes the increased demand for passports, Eaglesforesight gathered.

This aforementioned reasons has given some few immigration officials the opportunity to extort their clients.

Howbeit, our correspondent reports that amongst the bad eggs in the basket; there still remains some few good ones. No wonder that many of the applicants on the queue waiting for their appointment time were mentioning the name of few officers, explaining how they have been so nice and good to them during the process. One could imagine how Officer Fasasi Oladimeji, Officer Ajagbe and Deputy Comptroller Maigida Musa names were the talk of the day on seat.

It’s notably commendable seeing one officer Fasasi mode of dressing, manner of approaches and how officer Ajagbe has been able to put things in to order, the duo were like God sent Angels to the applicants with the way their names are being mentioned during discussions among the applicants, Eaglesforesight report.

When investigation was going on to know more about Inspector Fasasi Oladimeji and Mr Ajagbe (immigration officers), some of the applicants who has been familiar with them based on their series of engagements with applicants. Eaglesforesight correspondent was told about, how Ajagbe and Fasasi was sometimes ago addressing some applicants who were complaining about some officers extorting them, they respectively said; “We have been receiving reports of extortion and when any of the officers are caught in such act, such officer involved will according to the law face punishment, and the money will be refunded back to such applicant that fall victim.

“Here in Sagamu passport office, we are working with a programmed system, which follows a process and gives no access to manipulation,” The Eaglesforesight correspondent gathered.

“Applicants are expected to go online, fill the form and make payment. This is a strong measure to avert any kind of cash transaction. It is wrong procedure to come to passport office with cash because you are supposed to come to the passport office with evidence of your payment online. While filling the form online you choose the office you wish to go, the date that is convenient to you, Deputy Comptroller Officer Maigida Musa said.

We were told about how he also added that the only applicants who are been extorted are those who refused to follow the due process, “because the Immigration process is cashless”

Investigations gathered has confirmed that, “if anyone requests money from an applicant the applicant should report him or her to Immigration higher authorities for necessary actions to be taken.”
