Youth Group Sends Reminder To Gov Abiodun Over Dilapidated Ago Iwoye-Ilisan Road

Ago Iwoye Youth Forum has sent a reminder to the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun demanding for the quick fix of the deplorable Ago-Iwoye-Ilisan road

The youth made this demand in a letter dated October 8 and this is said to be coming after the one written to the governor two months ago.

The group in the letter signed by Omooba Tosin Adeyemi and Banjoko Toheeb, the President and Secretary of the group respectively said it was sad that two months after they wrote Gov. Abiodun on the need for construction work to begin on this very important road, nothing had been done

The youth noted that given the massive support the residents of Ago Iwoye gave the governor while seeking to govern the state in 2019 and which eventually culminated into his victory at the polls, the university town surely deserved commensurate attention from the government of Gov Dapo Abiodun.

The youth stated that over two years into the government of Gov Dapo Abiodun, the governor has failed to mobilise contractor back to the long abandoned Ago Iwoye-Ilisan dualisation road project yet the governor during his campaign promised to fix this very important road within his six months in office.

Speaking on why the governor should waste no more time in fixing this road, the youth said “This road is of great economic rejuvenation and safety to people of Ago-Iwoye, Olabisi Onabanjo University staff and students, Oru, hometown of the Secretary to the State government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, Awa, Ilaporu and most importantly, Ijebu Igbo, one of the commercial hubs of the state.

Aside serving as alternative route to travellers to the South East and South South whenever the ever busy Sagamu-Benin is blocked, the youth said the road also leads to the State Agricultural farm settlement where major food and cash crops that serve the residents of the state are being produced.

The group noted that unfortunately, the road is now a death trap and kidnapping den for the motorists and passer-by, locking up several economic and agricultural activities at this era of economic recession and campaign for boost agricultural ventures.

The youth said that the governor should not forget that the road which coarses through Remo axis of the state is very instrumental to the success of the legendary ongoing Cargo Airport project at Ilisan Remo saying that the governor should waste no more time to begin the road project in earnest.

The group revealed that it would certainly be a dent in the good work of Gov Abiodun if eventually this highly important road failed to be fixed before he round up his first tenure in May 2023 which is just 20 months away.

The youth as a reminder also demanded that the vacant Commissioner slot due to the resignation of Hon Abiodun Abudu-Balogun early this year should be given to the people of Ago Iwoye.

The youth said that since their son and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Dare Kadiri has lost his position to another lawmaker in Ogun Waterside, it’s just right the town is compensated by allowing the community to have the Commissioner slot.

The group disclosed further that it would amount to grave injustice and refusal to acknowledge the massive support and loyalty of the people of Ago Iwoye to the APC led government in the state if the governor fails to adress these legitimate demands of the town

The youth said that the decision of the governor to commence work in earnest between now and November on the Ago Iwoye-Ilisan road project as well compensate the town with the vacant Commissioner slot will go a long way to boost support for his 2023 second term ambition.
