Following the tragedy of Ita-Oshin in Abeokuta fuel tanker explosion in ogun state, the Ogun State chapter of African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed deep condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.

A devastating gas tanker explosion rocked the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta on Saturday evening, leaving one person dead and several buildings and shops destroyed.

According to eyewitnesses, a vehicle traveling from the Obada-Oko axis towards Abeokuta main city lost control, colliding with the median and resulting in a catastrophic explosion at approximately 5:30 pm.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic gas explosion, which led to the loss of an innocent life and destruction of properties,” said State Chairman for the ADC of Ogun. “This is a devastating incident that has brought pain and anguish to many families.”

The recent tanker explosion that happened on Saturday 27, April 2024 was such an eyesore when one decides to take stock and count the number of fuel tanker explosions that have occurred in ogun state since 2021.

“One can count at the very least eight incidents where fuel tankers either liquid or gas have exploded either as a result of an accident or as a result of overloading or as a result of human or mechanical error this spate of wanton destruction of property and life is unacceptable to the African Democratic Congress ADC in Ogun state.”

“It’s not right that every time we have to take people to the hospital, spend a lot of money rehabilitating the roads where the accidents have occurred. It’s not right that the lives of people are cut short in their prime, it’s not right that people leave their homes and not come back, not as the results of any fault of theirs but faults of other road users especially tanker drivers.”

“The ogun state government needs to look into this as we condemn in serious terms the destruction of property and elimination of lives.”
