 LET THERE BE A REVOLUTION FIRST EVEN IF WE HAd LATER BREAK UP – Sowore

Human rights activist, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, and National Chairman of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has called on secessionist agitators to have a rethink and fight for a revolution first, even if a break-up would later take place.

He told the agitators not to be carried away with the illusion that their problems would be solved the moment they break up Nigeria.  He noted that many Nigerians joined the calls for break up out of frustration and disillusionment arising from the myriads of problems bedeviling the country.

Sowore disclosed this on Friday in Abuja while speaking at the People’s Alternative Political Parties Summit (T-PAPS) titled “New Nigeria is Possible”.

The activist wondered how the proponents of secession would break-up the hearts of those who destroyed the country and

inflicted untold hardship on the Nigerians.

He however suggested that it was better to break up the hearts of oppressive leaders rather than break up the country.

According to him ” Before the brake up lets have the revolution first, so that those people who put us in this condition will not have the joy of going anywhere for a comfort.

” How will you brake up the hearts of the people who are destroying Nigeria who will now go back to their various new nation state. He maintained that the same mistake made by the British for not seeking the permission of the poeple  would be made if such agenda  pushed through.

He however cautioned various ethnic group to be circumspect in their agitation

 for self determination adding that the only workable alternative was to allow  revolution to take place.

He frowned at the culture of immortalising past leaders who he described as architects of the nation’s woes

by naming public roads, schools and buildings after them.

He said he was saddened driving on the roads named after former leaders such as Late Sani Abacha, Ibrahim Gbadamosi Babangida, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and others.

“As of today these individuals have turned Nigeria into ‘a super-power without power’. . They have made this country the headquarters of the most poorest people in the world.

“One of those people (Ngozi Okonjo Iweala) was recently rewarded with an appointment at the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

“Of course people were scared to even condemn her in the spirit that one of us has been given an international recognition, but at what cost was that recognition to the country?. Sowore said.

“As i am speaking here today Abuja residents the poorest of the poor have no water to drink. It is even far more expensive to buy a gallon of water than what to take to buy petrol because there is no water.

“My own message to Nigerians is for you to go back and read why the French revolution happened. all of those reasons are present today in Nigeria.

“One of the important factors that finally pushed people over the edge was the rise in the price of bread. So when is it that Nigerians who are being pushed over the edge will react against these criminals?. He asked.

Sowore stated that the current situation of the country due to bad governance can no longer be sustained. He called on Nigerians home and abroad to come together and rescue the country from the shackles of the current corrupt leadership.

The summit which was put together by a coalition of civil society group, socialists, pro-democracy activists, and trade union activists to chart a new way forward with the view to challenging the status quo and providing alternative solution through People’s Alternative Political Parties that would bring a new Nigeria.

Present at the occasion includes; Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, Co-Chair Central Organising Committee, Prof. Toye Olorode, and Comrade Jaye Gaskia.

Others are representatives of Trade Union Congress, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) and members of Socialist organizations, and others.
