GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU AND CP HAKEEM ODUMOSU SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY OVER KILLING OF A YOUNG FEMALE TRADER AT OJOTA BY THE POLICE, DURING VIOLENT DISRUPTION OF YORUBA NATION RALLY

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

DAY 40 OF #ENDOPPRESSION

4TH JULY, 2021

GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU AND CP HAKEEM ODUMOSU SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY OVER KILLING OF A YOUNG FEMALE TRADER AT OJOTA BY THE POLICE, DURING VIOLENT DISRUPTION OF YORUBA NATION RALLY

RELEASE ALL ARRESTED PROTESTERS AT OJOTA IMMEDIATELY

ALL OUT ON 7TH JULY IN MARCHES TO NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND LAGOS STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO DEMAND DEMOCRATIC AND ELECTORAL FREEDOMS AS WELL AS JUSTICE FOR “OJOTA ONE”

I write to demand immediate resignation of Governor Babajide SANWO-OLU of Lagos State and Hakeem Odumosu, the Commissioner of Police of Lagos State with the killing of a 14-year old female trader by stray live bullets shot by officers led by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu at the repression of “Oodua Nation Now” protests at Ojota, Lagos State.

It was a grand “show of shame” as police officers under the command of Lagos State Police Command , led by Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu unleashed water cannons , tear gas and live bullets on protesters.

In a press statement titled , “Re: Alleged Killing of 14 year-old Girl at Oodua Rally in Lagos”, issued by Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, the Police claimed that “the attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a news making rounds that a 14 year-old girl was hit and killed by police bullet today 3rd July, 2021 at the venue of the Oodua Republic Mega Rally in Ojota,  Lagos”

The statement went on to assert that “…the Command hereby wishes to debunk the rumour and state categorically that it’s a calculated attempt to create confusion and fears in the minds of the good people of Lagos State and the country at large”.

The statement claimed that “the Command did not fire a single live bullet at Ojota rally today. The said corpse was found wrapped and abandoned at a distance, far from Ojota venue of the rally, behind MRS Filling Station, inward Maryland, on the other side of the venue, with dried blood stains suggesting that the corpse is not fresh.  After a close look at the corpse, a wound suspectedly sustained from a sharp object was seen on it. “

This is the height of FALSIFICATION of facts. Aside overwhelming video and photographic evidence that the teenager was hit at a distance by stray bullet of the Police, when did the CP qualify as a haematologist to define “fresh blood” and “dry blood”?

I demand the immediate release of all arrested and detained protesters.

Going forward, it will take sustained mass actions to defeat the draconian and tyrannical Buhari-led regime and the other wings of the ruling elite.

The growing constriction of democratic and electoral space needs to be constricted. The Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill which many are calling to be passed is now undergoing a surgical bastardisation. A new provision banning electronic transmission has been introduced.

I call for mass participation in the #OccupyNASS 2.0 Marches to National Assembly and all States’  Houses of Assembly to demand that original draft of the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, which contains provision for electronic transmission of results.

These Marches will be taking place under the auspices of Alliance of Civil Society Organisations for the Expansion of Electoral and Democratic Space (ACCESS)of which I am the Co-Spokesperson. In Lagos, we will be marching on the Lagos State House of Assembly as a point of contact to the National Assembly , where we will be submitting our petition and also calling for Justice for the “Ojota One”.

DARE TO STRUGGLE! DARE TO WIN!!

WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT OUR CHAINS!!!
