“He (Obasanjo) went to Warri this morning (Sunday) to pay homage to the new king,” a source disclosed to Eaglesforesight. It is a traditional institution; he (Ogiame Atuwatse III) is not the one who sits on the throne, but the institution, the source told our correspondence when asked why Obasanjo knelt down before Olu Of Warri.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo knelt before HRM Tsola Emiko, Olu of Warri, when he paid homage to the king at the weekend.

Meanwhile this is not the first time the elderly man, Obasanjo, will be captured kneeling before Monarchs. He was once captured before the Royal stool prostrating flat down for the Ooni Ife, Oba Eniyan Adewusi, Ojaja 2 during his visit to Ile-Ife to pay a royal homage to the King.

He is also the Chairman of Ocean Marine Security Ltd., as well as a Director of Gulf of Guinea Ltd. and Vessel Link Big. Ltd. He is the father of three children with Ivie Uhunoma Emiko, the daughter of late Edo billionaire business mogul Idahosa Okunbo.

According to history, this would be the first time in over two centuries that an Olu’s eldest son would ascend the throne while his mother was still alive to witness it. The monarch returned to the past and reversed an age-old curse placed on Nigeria by his grandfather, Olu Erejuwa II, as a result of alleged injustice meted out to him in his inaugural speech as the newly-installed Olu of Warri on Saturday. 

“Today, in our capacity as Olu, we hereby avow, as the spiritual, cultural, political, and traditional ruler of this land, that I, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the 21st Olu of Warri, the first son of Olu Atuwatse II, the grandson and direct descendant of Olu Erejuwa II, who was offended on this throne, hereby reverse the curse placed over this land. “In its place, I grant forgiveness and healing to the Nigerian Federal Government, whose power was used to perpetuate that crime. And I declare unheard-of peace, prosperity, progress, and development for this land.

I bring the government of heaven down upon this land, and I command it to flow as an unstoppable force that cannot be sabotaged, slowed, or stopped. It has a strong ripple effect that extends from this kingdom to the rest of the Niger Delta, Nigeria, and even the African continent,” the newly coronated monarch said.

The most powerful Itsekiri monarch was crowned with two new customised cars: a Rolls Royce and a Bentley 2021 model.
