…says the North-South energy rotation principle undermined

Chimaroke Nnamani, former governor of Enugu state, has explained why he is pitching his tent with All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu for the 2023 general election.

Nnamani said the People’s Democratic Party has violated its constitution and denied the South the chance to run for president.

The former governor stated that the PDP’s constitution specified that key political offices would be rotated between the north and south to ensure justice, fairness and fairness.

The PUNCH reported barely a week ago how the Enugu legislator was suspended by the PDP along with other party leaders in Ekiti and Imo states for alleged anti-party activities.

A statement from the legislature on Sunday, and made available to journalists in Abuja, read: “Conscious of the need to share and rotate important political offices among the diverse people of our country, the PDP Constitution clearly stated that it is at all times time will be adhered to. to the policy of rotation and zoning of the party and public election offices in accordance with the principle of fairness, justice and fairness.

“Even when PDP National President Iyorchia Ayu made a firm commitment to step down, if a northerner were to become the presidential candidate for the 2023 election, the leadership jettisoned the constitutional provision and turned logic on its head. ”

The legislator recalled that “in 2019, the PDP allowed the North to contest the Port Harcourt, Rivers State presidential primaries, in which Atiku Abubakar captured the ticket and contested the election.

Commenting further, he pointed out that the PDP was expected to similarly enable the South to compete for the top spot in 2023.

He noted that due to a confluence of circumstances and alleged political maneuvering, Atiku again got the ticket.

The lawmaker went on to say that the outcome of the presidential primaries enraged southern PDP believers, including G-5 governors who insisted on respecting the north-south rotation principle.

The lawmaker added that “the PDP’s action amounted to injustice and lack of fairness while claiming that it is morally wrong to leave power in the north after the tenure of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. .) in 2023.”

He noted that in recognition of the North-South power rotation, Buhari created a window for political balance that allowed Bola Tinubu to emerge as the presidential candidate.

“After critically examining the situation, I found Tinubu to be the preferred candidate from the South to foot the bill in 2023, saying there is a need for political harmony in a way that brings a sense of belonging to all parts of Nigeria,” said he.
