Who told El-Rufai North behind Tinubu, asks Bafarawa

A former governor of Sokoto State and leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Attahiru Bafarawa, has responded to Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s comment that there are no more elders in northern Nigeria.

Bafarawa said the comment was an insult to the North and distasteful to El-Rufai for categorizing them all as bad eggs.

The former governor responded to the comment made by the governor of Kaduna in his interview with the BBC.

El-Rufai made the remarks in his interview with the BBC, claiming there were some elements sabotaging the All Progressives Congress under the guise of new naira notes in an attempt to influence the party’s victory at the polls.

“He insisted that Tinubu should win the election, whether people like it or not, they have already won. Who told him that all of the North supports the APC?

“This is just his opinion, in that case he has no right to insist on the North, because everyone has their candidate.

“The way he campaigns for Tinubu, that’s how we campaign for our candidate,” Bafarawa said.

Bafarawa insisted that an individual has no power to force his candidate on other people, saying, “We will shock them, we will make them understand that this country belongs to no one, just like the North.”

The former governor quoted El-Rufai as saying, “(About) the issue of elders; there is nothing like elders, i am also an elder, i will be 63 years old in 2023, so who are the elders in the north? We, the governors of the north, are the elders and we are the leaders of the north,” said age not necessarily responsible.

The former governor found that young people who reason well in their youthful exuberance are better than someone of 100 years old if we have to look at age.

“He talks about being 63, doesn’t he see that there are still elderly people left in the North? For us, we see that these comments bear no responsibility.

“His comments are irresponsible and respectful. What is expected of him are comments that can lead to the development of the north and the development of the country as a whole.

“El-Rufai talked about fighting for elections and winning, if this is what he called responsible, we fought for him and won,” he said.
