We’re Been Shortchanged, Simawa Community Cries Out: Fadesewa Urges Dr. Oyenuga Adeshola To Fulfill Community Needs If Elected
Alayeluwa Oba Gbenga Sonuga, the Fadesewa of Simawa in an impassioned appeal to Dr. Oyenuga Adeshola Jamiu, has voiced deep concerns over the lack of development in his community, stating that his people have been “shortchanged” by the APC and especially the current government. My people are “suffering” due to years of unfulfilled promises.
Oba Sonuga, who has led Simawa as its monarch for over two decades, lamented that his community has not fully enjoyed the dividends of democracy since he settled down in Simawa, particularly under the current government.
The Fadesewa made his remarks during a recent visit from Dr. Oyenuga Adeshola Jamiu (Jasper), the chairmanship candidate for Sagamu Local Government under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In his address, Oba Sonuga pointed out that after two decades, Simawa still lacks adequate infrastructure and essential services despite multiple promises made by political leaders.
“The APC claims they are working on our community roads, particularly the Igbepa axis road popularly called Oko ati Ada,” Oba Sonuga said. “But I am not happy because this is not what we deserve. My people deserve better, and we hope that you, Dr. Oyenuga, will remember us if elected.”
The Ogbodo 1 of Simawa’s appeal highlights the significant gaps in public infrastructure in Simawa and surrounding areas. Residents face inadequate road networks, limited healthcare facilities, and a lack of consistent access to basic utilities. These challenges have hindered the community’s economic growth, discouraged investment, and affected residents’ daily lives.
A Community’s Plea for Change and Development
Simawa’s plea for a responsive government reflects a widespread concern within the community. Poor road conditions in particular have hampered the movement of people and goods, affecting businesses, schools, and healthcare access. The Fadesewa’s call to Dr. Oyenuga is more than a request for electoral promises; it is a call to action to transform the area and address years of neglect.
Oba Sonuga’s plea comes at a crucial moment, with the Sagamu Local Government election approaching. For the community of Simawa, this election represents an opportunity to elect leaders who can prioritize the town’s specific needs and deliver concrete improvements.

In response to the issues raised, Dr. Oyenuga Adeshola Jamiu Jasper could incorporate a strategic plan to address Simawa’s developmental challenges if elected. Some key areas to consider if elected includes:
Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance: Improving critical roads like the Igbepa to Oko ati Ada road should be a priority. Dr. Oyenuga could propose a phased plan to rehabilitate roads and ensure ongoing maintenance to provide safe and reliable transportation for residents and businesses. Partnering with state and federal agencies for additional support would ensure long-term sustainability.
Health Infrastructure Development: Building or upgrading health centers and staffing them with qualified personnel would be transformative. Dr. Oyenuga could prioritize accessible healthcare within Simawa, addressing emergency and primary care needs. Mobile clinics could also be introduced to serve remote areas.
Access To Clean Water And Constant Electricity Supply: Utilities are fundamental for community welfare. A plan to improve clean water access, through boreholes or a water treatment initiative, could alleviate some residents’ burdens. Similarly, collaborating with power providers or investing in alternative energy sources could offer stable electricity and drive local businesses forward.
Youth Employment and Skills Development: Establishing vocational training centers and youth empowerment programs would help tackle unemployment, which has been a long-standing issue. By equipping young people with skills, Dr. Oyenuga could stimulate local economic growth and reduce poverty levels in the community.
Transparent Governance and Regular Engagement: A commitment to transparency and accountability can strengthen trust between elected officials and citizens. Dr. Oyenuga could establish quarterly town hall meetings in Simawa to allow residents to voice concerns and monitor progress on projects. This consistent interaction would assure the community that its issues remain a priority.
The councilorship candidate, Olaniyi Adebola Elijah assures the community of always standing for what will benefit the people of ward 13 if massively voted for and elected as the councilor to represent them.
The Fadesewa’s appeal sheds light on a community in need of dedicated and empathetic leadership. Simawa’s residents seek a local government that listens, understands, and acts on their behalf. As Dr. Oyenuga prepares for the election, the hope is that he will prioritize Simawa’s needs and commit to lasting change.
If Dr. Oyenuga follows through on the solutions proposed, Simawa could finally see the developmental progress it deserves. The community is ready for a brighter future, and their call for change echoes across the local government area, marking a pivotal moment for Sagamu’s leadership and for Simawa’s resilient residents.
