We have not endorsed any presidential candidate – NANS
Students from the country’s TERTIARY institution have said they should not yet support any presidential candidate in the upcoming general election.
The students under their umbrella body, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), said they are still profiling the files of each of the presidential candidates and their parties from which they will eventually choose the best among them to vote for during the February 25 presidential election.
NANS National Public Relations Officer, a University of Lagos (UNILAG) student, Mr. Tope Giwa, made this disclosure in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune on Monday.
He said that at no point did NANS endorse a presidential candidate, but set up a special committee to review the credentials of all candidates from all parties without keeping any of them out of the exercise.
“The committee has gone far with the task and will present its report and recommendation to the NANS president in a few days.
“We plan to reveal to the public who our choice is among the contenders about a week before the election. And we will massively mobilize every Nigerian student to vote for that candidate.
“This year’s elections will not be like the others. We will make sure that we all vote and that our votes count.
“We will mobilize for the candidate with the genuine interest of students, education, youth and health at heart, as well as who is also interested in the general welfare of Nigerians and the economy,” he explained.
Giwa, who said that “the schools are not likely to be closed because of the election,” noted that NANS would ensure that students who registered with INEC for their permanent voter cards (PVCs) at school go to their polling stations to to cast their vote. , while those who registered at home would travel home to cast their ballots and get all behind their votes.
