The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly dismissed claims circulating on social media that it has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate ahead of the August 16 bye-election in Remo Federal Constituency, describing the reports as “baseless, mischievous, and a desperate attempt to distort the facts.”

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the PDP clarified that while the party had supported President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election based on the national consensus for power shift to the South, that endorsement was never extended to the underperforming APC or Governor Dapo Abiodun.

“Let it be clear: our support for President Tinubu in 2023 was a strategic national decision. It does not, in any way, translate into support for Governor Dapo Abiodun or the APC in Ogun State. The people of Remoland know better, and they will speak again through the ballot,” the statement read.

The PDP accused the APC of twisting recent remarks from its campaign flag-off in a bid to salvage what it described as “an already doomed outing” in the coming bye-election. The party stressed that the performance of Governor Abiodun at the grassroots level has been underwhelming, pointing to records from the last general election where the governor lost both his polling unit and ward to the PDP in Iperu, his hometown.

According to PDP, INEC results show that in Polling Unit 002 (Ita Osanyin), PDP polled 119 votes while the APC scored 112. Similarly, in Iperu Ward III, PDP secured 794 votes against APC’s 731.

“Instead of addressing their rejection even at home, the APC has launched a campaign of falsehood. But no amount of propaganda will change the reality that Governor Abiodun and his party are unpopular in Remoland,” Adebayo stated.

The PDP also warned against any planned deployment of violence or state machinery to suppress voters, urging Governor Abiodun to focus on ensuring a peaceful electoral process rather than resorting to intimidation.

“This bye-election is not about President Tinubu. It is about local governance, and it will serve as a referendum on the APC’s failure in Ogun State. The people are waiting to pass their verdict,” the party said.

Reaffirming its confidence in victory, the PDP reiterated support for its candidate, Hon. Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole, whom it described as “a man of the people” with the experience and grassroots support to deliver effective representation.

“The APC stands no chance in Remoland. The people are ready to vote out incompetence and reward credibility. No amount of deceit can stop that wave,” the statement concluded.

The Remo Federal Constituency remains a key battleground with high stakes for both major parties. However, the PDP appears confident that history is poised to repeat itself—with the people rejecting APC’s governance at the polls once again.
