Viral video shows terrorist waving wads of new banknotes
A notorious terrorist leader, Machalla Baleri, has been seen in a viral video carrying wads of new naira notes amid a naira scarcity.
The PUNCH reports that banking halls at several commercial banks in Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and other parts of the country showed minimal activity as frustrated customers resorted to alternative ways to withdraw cash following the scarcity of naira notes in the banks.
Checks by our correspondents revealed that while most bank halls were empty due to the lack of cash in bank vaults, large crowds had formed outside some of the few banks rumored to be preparing to load their ATMs.
But the bandit leader claimed in an unverified video released online on Wednesday that he had had enough of the new naira notes.
Baleri, who spoke in the Hausa language in the two minutes and 20 seconds video clip, claimed to have up to N10 million of the new naira notes.
He also claimed that he had enough fresh naira notes to buy more guns.
