Torrential rain and wild weather continued to hit Auckland and New Zealand’s North Island on Friday.
Cars were submerged and people waded through rising floodwaters as first responders rushed to the rescue.
According to news reports, residents of flood-prone areas in West Auckland had been told to prepare for evacuation as heavy rains also caused power outages.
Friday evening, local time, there was a severe thunderstorm warning for Northland and Auckland, with weather services warning of rainfall between 25 and 40 millimeters per hour.
