TRIBUTE: Omomewa’s murderers must be found, Comrade Nurudeen Yusuf Omomewa’s gruesome murder is too shocking to believe.
We were together at DSM Centre few days ago during a meeting between Education Rights Campaign (ERC) and aggrieved parents of Lagos State Model Colleges to mobilize for struggle against hike in boarding fee in this period of economic hardship unleashed on Nigerians by government. Now he’s dead, what a sad story!
Omomewa’s brutal murder in front of LASU gate by the prowling “unknown gunmen” is symptomatic of the dangerous state of the nation’s insecurity and tacit indulgence of bandits by decorating them with the garlands of repentance and forgiveness which makes crime attractive since the wages of crime is no more death or punishment but pardon with a red carpet reception.
Omomewa”s death is a great loss to the nation, his bereaved family, the DSM & ERC, student movement and other revolutionary / radical organisations and comrades whom he had worked with in the collective struggle to liberate Nigerians from the shackles of neo-liberal economic bandits in Nigeria.
I appeal to security agencies to fish out Omomewa’s killers without delay. All leads must be investigated including some unscrupulous members of LASU administration and their bad boys who have kept Omomewa in school unnecessarily by not releasing him for service, invited him to a disciplinary panel that wouldn’t sit on many occasions, threatening him with strange phone calls in the past and framed Omomewa up sometimes ago with intention to destroy his academic career because of his radical and principled leadership of the stidents. All these attacks on him before his gruesome murder were published in the social media by him and the ERC, the organisation he led in LASU.
One is just heartbroken to say farewell to a young, promising, articulate and brilliant revolutionary Comrade whose life was cut short towards his prime and when he’s needed most.
Adieu Comrade Omomewa as your protesting spirit will continue to haunt your killers until they are caught and made to face the music of death. Too sorrowful.
Adeola Soetan.
