Tinubu’s Tax Reform, Southwest Development Commission Will Spur Regional Growth – Gbenga Daniel

Former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed optimism about the strategic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighting the benefits of tax restructuring and the creation of the South-West Development Commission as pivotal to regional advancement.
Daniel made these remarks while speaking at the 4th Asiwaju of Remo Christian Choir Festival held at the Abraham Tabernacle Ecumenical Worship Centre, Sagamu. He affirmed the current administration’s commitment to national development, citing a revived local government structure as a clear sign of positive change.
“Before now, local government administration was practically non-existent. But today, with increased autonomy and disbursement of funds, we are witnessing a revival,” he stated.
Quasi-Regional Governance and Legacy of Awolowo
He emphasized that the signing of the South-West Development Commission bill into law by President Tinubu signals a bold move toward regional development.
“What we now have is a quasi-regional government – a system reminiscent of what the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, operated during the regional government era. This gives the Southwest a strategic edge in planning and implementation,” Daniel noted.
Support for Ijebu-Remo State Creation
On the long-standing agitation for the creation of an additional state from Ogun, Senator Daniel disclosed that stakeholders had finally reached a consensus:
“The general agreement is for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State. It is a collective decision by key stakeholders in the region.”

Reflecting on the purpose of the event, Daniel commended the use of music for spiritual upliftment, saying:
“The seed planted 17 years ago has grown into a tree providing spiritual nourishment through songs. We must continue to praise God despite the economic challenges.”
He applauded all nine participating choirs for their inspiring performances and moral impact.
