The woman’s right to marry her daughter’s ex-boyfriend – Kano Hisbah
The Kano State Hisbah Board on Tuesday cleared misconceptions about the marriage of the woman who married her daughter’s former suitor in the state’s Rano Local Government Area.
The PUNCH reported that the woman, Malama Khadija, had allegedly dissolved her marriage and married her daughter’s boyfriend.
The incident occurred after the woman’s daughter, Aisha, rejected her lover, an action that sparked controversy, leading the Hisbah board to set up a committee to investigate the matter.
The commission investigating the controversy surrounding the marriage submitted its report Tuesday night.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the commission, who also serves as deputy commander of Hisbah Special Operations, Hussain Ahmed, explained that the commission found out that the marriage was legal and met all the necessary criteria.
He explained that the woman, Khadija Rano, had been divorced by her former husband, observed the three-month waiting period (iddah) prescribed by Islam, and later married a man who had previously rejected her biological daughter.
Ahmed dismissed the rumors that Khadijah was seeing her new husband while she was married and that she had pushed her husband to divorce her to marry her daughter’s lover.
He noted that the marriage was legal under Islam, and said that was the reason why the Hisbah commander in Rano LGA supported and participated in the marriage ceremonies.
In response, the Commander General of the Hisbah Council, Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina, praised the committee for effectively fulfilling its duties.
He claimed that the committee members were carefully selected for their vast knowledge of Islamic teachings and social orientation.
Ibn Sina called on the public to stop spreading fake news and avoid misconceptions about issues related to Islam.
He advised them to seek knowledge as Islam is a religion that sets aside jurisdictions regarding marriage, family life and all other related issues of human endeavour.
Social media was flooded last week with reports of the woman allegedly ending her marriage to marry her daughter’s spurned suitor.
