The Rivers Police Department arrests a suspected six-member criminal gang
Rivers State Police Command said its officers arrested a suspected six-member criminal gang on Elele-Owerri Road in Rivers State.
It said the suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation, adding that five firearms, military and other security equipment were recovered from the vehicles transporting the gang.
Command spokesman Grace Iringe-Koko made this known in a statement released on Tuesday and made available to journalists.
Iringe-Koko said the weapons and ammunition found included two English-made automatic revolvers, pointing out that all the suspects were from Kogi state.
The statement read: “Agents from Rivers State Police Command on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at approximately 11:40 a.m. during a stop-and-search duty along Elele Owerri Road, intercepted a Toyota Sienna carrying Reg. No. KNE 194 AJ with six occupants.
“They are Boniface Owoicho (driver), 55; MomoJunior, 27; Mudi Moses, 25; Ibrahim John, 35; Abdul Faruk, 23; and Nuhu Imadi, all of Kogi State.
“After a thorough search of the vehicle, the police team found five weapons (three English-made single barrels and two English-made automatic revolver barrels) and twenty anti-aircraft rounds.
“Four police belts, five knives, two military vests, three operational boats, a civil defense hat, two long-sleeved shirts were also recovered, engraved with Nigerian fighters and forest security services.
“Others include four masks, two woven caps, ten mobile phone handsets, five ID cards, two flashlights (sic), a bag of rosaries, rings, beads, anointing oil, a pair of civil defense surgical trousers and a Muslim neck sweater. ”
She went on to say: “A full-scale investigation has already been launched and those found guilty will be brought to court at the end of the investigation.”
The Command urged all Rivers State residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report suspicious activity/movements to the police so that action can be taken quickly.
