The Inspector General of Police Usman Baba launched the ‘IGP-SmartForce Database Management Centre’ on Wednesday, for the digitization of personnel files and biometric capture of all officers of the Nigeria Police Force, The PUNCH reports.

This was because the IG ordered a total overhaul of the former system and a prompt start of the digitization process for all Nigerian Police Force commands and formations for timely upgrade and operation of the system.

According to police authorities, the move is designed to ensure officers’ data is captured and stored for record-keeping purposes and to reduce administrative bottlenecks, to facilitate tracking of transmissions and transfers, and to issue radio frequency identification cards for personnel identification.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday, “The SmartForce with storage servers located at the facilities of the National Command and Control Center of the Nigerian Police and the SmartForce office at the Office of the Force Secretary in the Force Headquarters, Abuja is focused on integrating the NPF into an ICT based system.

“This is to simplify the management of NPF personnel files, manage the entire police force workforce, uniquely manage and identify each personnel of the NPF, and it is structured with modern technology concepts to simplify the distribution of the workforce and control access across the country. .”

He also noted that the system would assist the Office of the Force Secretary in planning the deployment of personnel in the NPF, budget issues, tracing and identifying police personnel, and retrieving data related to serving and retired police personnel. .

Adejobi added: “The IG has also promulgated the practical training of PPROs and ICT officers of the 36 state commands and the FCT, at Force Headquarters, on how to handle and use the gadgets provided for capturing data from all personnel, including a modernized hi-tech biometric machine with unique features such as fingerprint scanner, 2D scanner and smart facial recognition application.

“Reiterating its vision for a police force driven by the integration of advanced technology, the IG has mandated a total overhaul of the former system and a rapid start of the digitization process for all commands and formations of the force for a timely upgrade and operation. of the system.”
