The Jigawa government denounces the scarcity of new naira notes
The Jigawa state government has expressed concern over the scarcity of new naira notes, saying residents of the state are sleeping at Automated Teller Machines stands.
State Finance and Economic Development Commissioner Babangida Gantsa said on Wednesday during his visits to several commercial banks in the state that no fewer than 250 customers were queuing at ATMs to withdraw cash.
Gantsa explained that the unavailability of naira notes in circulation had paralyzed economic activities and other social life in Jigawa.
“You can see for yourself, people who spend nights at ATMs queuing to withdraw money from the commercial banks.
“Worried by the situation, he (Mr. Governor) asked me to visit the commercial banks in the capital, where the bank managers confirmed to me that the Central Bank of Nigeria was refusing them enough money to load at the ATM for people to withdraw money. record.
“There is one ATM where I counted 215 people waiting to withdraw money. At other banks, ATM there are more than 250 in one ATM point. They said many of them spent nights there.
“The troubles had already crippled the Point of Sales businesses in the state due to the lack of a new naira note.”
