The Federal Government Has Taken A Final Decision On The Scrapping Of The NYSC Scheme.
Honourable Awaji-Inombek Abiante, representing Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency sponsored the bill, citing insecurity in the country as a reason.
But Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Sunday Dare on Wednesday, dismissed reports that the scheme will be discontinued.
Addressing the speculations on his Twitter handle this morning, the Minister said the government is committed to sustaining the scheme.
“The NYSC scheme remains one of the greatest tools for National development for our youth. The commitment of the government to sustaining the NYSC scheme remains. Dynamic Reforms and Initiatives towards current realities are ongoing. Nigeria will stand with her youth.”
What will happen to the bill to scrap NYSC?
It is not yet clear as the bill just only passed the second reading.
For any bill to become law, in Nigeria it needs to scale through three readings in the house, and will go through committee reading.
It will later be passed to the upper legislative house, the senate will agree to the bill before the President finally assents or signs it into law.
