SWAN distances self from NUJ’s purported meeting with Tinubu
The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), has exempted its members from the forthcoming meeting with the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the forthcoming election, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A letter, seeking to have an interface with APC presidential candidate was alleged to have earlier been written by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The letter, which was said to have been signed by the NUJ President, Chief Chris Isiguzo, to the aforementioned presidential candidate, was said to have listed SWAN as one of the bodies expected to be part of the NUJ executives.
Exonerating itself from the letter, the leadership of SWAN in a statement on Friday and made available to DAILY POST, said “We wish to state categorically that the National Secretariat of SWAN is not part of the NUJ delegation.”
Signed by its Secretary General, Jude Opara, the statement reads, “While we accept that the NUJ has the right to interact with Tinubu or any other person for that matter, we make bold to state that as a duly registered organization under the Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we are not part of the purported NUJ arrangement.
“SWAN is not part of the NUJ delegation to the said meeting with Tinubu and anybody who introduces himself as a representative of SWAN at the occasion is simply an impostor.”
