Supreme Court verdict vindicates honourable Wale Adedayo's courageous stance on Local Government Financial Autonomy

Honourable Wale Adedayo, a former Local Government Chairman in Ogun State, has been vindicated and hailed as a major Hero for grassroots democracy and a testament of courage in a landmark judgment delivered on Thursday, 11th of July 2024, where the Supreme Court of Nigeria granted financial autonomy to Local Government Areas (LGAs).

According to Bashiru Hammed Adewale, also known as Honourable Prince Lahbash, a senior Media Aide to the Remo Youth Association, Honourable Adedayo’s fearless stance against the atrocities perpetuated by Governors, particularly Mr. Dapo Abiodun, who removed him from office, has finally paid off.

Honourable Adedayo’s journey began in 2018 when he was elected as the Chairman of Ijebu North East Local Government Area. However, his tenure was marked by a fierce battle against the state government’s attempt to usurp the powers and funds of the LGAs. Despite the odds, he remained resolute in his pursuit of justice and equality for the people at the grassroots level.
