Remo Sports Council set to awaken women’s football in the zone
Apart from Royaltoms Queens from Sango Ota, there is no Women’s football club in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) from Ogun State.
Secretary of Remo Sports Development Council, Osuolale Olaleye David says the council is set to awaken women’s football in Remo as well as Ogun State to be able to have more Women’s football clubs in the state.
“I heard that there was South West women football competition which normally holds in Ikenne annually. We need to revisit it to know those who are behind it see how we can reawaken such tournament and from that we can raise our own team. The Chairman of Remo Sports Development Council is a woman (Falilat Ogunkoya) and I am sure that she will ensure that women’s football development in Remo sees the light of the day. I want to challenge the male coaches in Remoland to work to discover women’s football talents. We will work along with them to assist them.” He told www.kick442.com while stating the Council’s programs at Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu Ogun State.
The Remo Divisional Sports Officer (DSO) also applauded Royaltoms Queens under the tutelage of Coach Olajide Royal for their promotion to the NWFL Championship stating that the club should be supported ahead of their NWFL Championship campaign.
He said: “Royaltoms Queens is not a new club in Ogun State in terms of Women’s football. They need to be supported because they have done very well for the state and we need to rally round the club. Likewise anybody from this part or any where in Ogun State that equally come up with such idea, I want to believe such a person will be rewarded. The Remo Sports Development Council will look into that to see how we can come up with a women’s football team.”
Privately owned Royaltoms Queens gained promotion to the NWFL Championship after the conclusion of 2021 NWFL Nationwide from Ijebu Ode centre.
“I know what female athletes are contributing towards sports development. The last National Sports Festival attended by Ogun State, the bulk of the gold medals won for the state were won by female athletes. Football coaches need to work. The national female boxing coach is from Ogun State. The number one 64kg female boxer in Africa is from Ogun State.
“In Nigeria, the female athletes are the one raising the standards of sports and bringing back the glory to the country at International events.” He concluded.
