The Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) has come to the aid of a whistleblower arrested in connection with the recent tragic death of a young factory operator at Quantum Metal Company (formerly Real Metal Company), located in Ogijo, Ogun State.

The youth, who witnessed the horrific industrial accident and attempted to rescue his colleague trapped in a scrap-cutting machine, was detained under controversial circumstances. He claims he was only trying to save a life but was obstructed by armed security personnel attached to the company. His efforts, instead of being appreciated, allegedly led to his wrongful arrest.

The Sagamu Youth Association swiftly intervened to secure his bail. Under the leadership of:

Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal (Ambassador Easy) – President, Sagamu Youth Association

Comrade Lateef Sodiya – Deputy President, SYA & Special Adviser on Youths and Sports to Sagamu Local Government

Comrade Bashiru Hammed Adewale (Hon. Prince Lahbash) – Director of Special Duties, SYA

…the association contributed to the whistle blower to ensure they secured his bail condition, ensuring that he regained his freedom after facing intimidation and undue detention. The individual, who wishes to remain anonymous for security reasons, was released and is now receiving support from the youth body.

In a firm statement, the SYA condemned what it described as a deliberate attempt by Quantum Metal Company to suppress the truth and intimidate witnesses. The association also raised concerns over the alleged hasty burial of the deceased victim, which many suspect was orchestrated to prevent a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.

“This is not just an industrial accident — it’s a humanitarian crisis and a justice issue. If the company is found guilty of negligence or of obstructing justice, it will not go scot-free. Sagamu Youth Association will pursue every legal and civic route to ensure accountability,” said Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal, President of SYA.

“We will not support any form of injustice in Sagamu or anywhere our youths are being exploited. The era of silence is over,” added Comrade Lateef Sodiya, the Deputy President.

SYA Calls for Government and Public Action

The Association is calling on the Ogun State Government, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National Human Rights Commission to:

Launch an independent and transparent investigation into the death

Review Quantum Metal Company’s safety practices

Protect whistleblowers and other workers from retaliation

Ensure Justice For The Deceased And His Family

The SYA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of young people in Sagamu and beyond, especially those working in high-risk industries.

“We will stand by every Sagamu youth who speaks up for truth and justice. We will not fold our arms while lives are wasted and voices are silenced,” declared Comrade Bashiru Hammed Adewale (Hon. Prince Lahbash).
