Sagamu Youth Association Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum To IBEDC Over Worsening Power Supply

The Sagamu Youth Association (SYA) has issued a stern ultimatum to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Sagamu Branch, demanding the immediate restoration of stable power supply within 48 hours. The association specifically called on the newly appointed Sagamu Business Hub Manager, Mr. Femi, to take urgent action, warning that failure to comply could lead to intensified measures by the youth and affected residents.
According to SYA executives, Sagamu experienced relatively better power supply during the festive period, though it was not entirely stable. However, the current situation has worsened drastically, plunging homes and businesses into darkness. Residents have been complaining bitterly, highlighting the adverse effects of the erratic power supply on economic activities, security, and overall livelihood. The association expressed concern that continued neglect of this issue could lead to heightened tension and protests within the town if not proactively taken care of as expected.
The youth leaders further condemned IBEDC for allegedly prioritizing revenue generation over service delivery. They noted that Sagamu contributes billions of naira monthly to IBEDC’s revenue, yet residents continue to suffer from irregular electricity supply. SYA emphasized that it is unfair and unacceptable for the community to be financially exploited without a corresponding improvement in power distribution.

In light of the growing frustration among residents, SYA has urged IBEDC to act swiftly and responsibly. The association warned that it would not hesitate to shut down IBEDC offices in Sagamu if the situation remains unresolved. They reiterated that stable electricity is not a privilege but a fundamental right of the people, and as such, IBEDC must be held accountable for its inefficiencies.
The Sagamu Youth Association reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of the people and ensuring that their voices are heard. They called on community leaders, stakeholders, and government representatives to intervene and ensure that IBEDC fulfills its obligations. The association vowed to monitor the situation closely and take decisive steps should IBEDC fail to meet the 48-hour deadline.
