Sagamu Youth Association Condemns Police Incident That Claims Life, Kicks Against Illegal Roads Block, Advocates For Peaceful Coexistence

Tragedy struck in Sagamu on Christmas Day as Late Folorunsho, a resident of the Itunsoku area, died of shock following an encounter with a patrol team of the Nigeria Police Force from Igbobi police station.

The incident, which could have escalated into a major crisis, was swiftly managed by the intervention of the Sagamu Youth Association and the Elepe of Epe HRH Oba Adewale Osiberu.

Led by its President, Comrade Olugbenga Isiaka Lawal, popularly known as Ambassador Easy, and the convincing stand of Abijo Gbolahan (Bobo), the association successfully calmed aggrieved youths who had gathered in protest. Ambassador Easy urged the community to maintain peace and avoid any retaliatory actions, stressing the importance of harmony in the town.

The deceased was buried promptly in accordance with Islamic rites, with a delegation from the palace of the Elepe of Epe, HRH Oba Adewale Osiberu, extending their condolences and persuading the family to uphold peace during this trying time.

Addressing the community, Ambassador Easy expressed sadness over the incident and called for strengthened trust between law enforcement and the people. He also condemned illegal roadblocks, emphasizing their role in fostering unnecessary conflicts.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of a life in such an avoidable circumstance. However, we must remain united and peaceful. God knows best,” Ambassador Easy remarked.

The Sagamu Youth Association assured the public that the situation remains under close observation to prevent any further unrest. They appealed to both the police and residents to prioritize dialogue and mutual respect in resolving disputes.

This incident has sparked discussions on policing practices and community engagement, with stakeholders urging for reforms to ensure such unfortunate events do not reoccur.
