Sagamu Mayhem: 3 Weeks After, Lawmaker Still In Detention, Ogun Assembly Seeks Bail
The Lawmaker representing Offin, Sagamu 1 State Constituency, Hon. Damilare Muhammad Bello is yet to be released by the security agencies, 3rd weeks after his arrest at his official state house.
The Eaglesforesight recalls that Hon. Dre Bello was arrested in September 21 by the DSS in alleged connection with the cult clashes that claimed about 20 lives in Sagamu recently.
Since his arrest about three weeks ago, Bello was not granted bail, neither was he charged to court.
Concerned by his continued incarceration, the Ogun State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution requesting the release of the detained lawmaker from the DSS custody pending the conclusion of investigation.
The Assembly said the request became necessary “so as not to allow his constituents suffer absence of representation”.
A statement from Ogun Assembly media said that the passage of the resolution followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye and supported by other lawmakers through a voice vote.

“Earlier in their submissions, the members advocated for the bail of the detained lawmaker, explaining that the security agency could continue with their investigation while not depriving the lawmaker of his constitutional duty of representing his constituency.
“They noted that since whatever he was alleged was bailable; administrative bail could be granted the lawmaker to allow him continue to represent his constituency pending the conclusion of investigation rather than allowing him remain in custody for over two weeks,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, another source that’s yet to be verified disclosed that, Hon. Dre Bello has been transferred from the custody of the Department of State Security, DSS, to the Ogun State Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Eleweeran Abeokuta.
However, informations reaching Eaglesforesight disclosed that his family, friends and constituents are so eager to see and hear the outcome of the investigations been carried on in his case.
