The Sagamu Local Government Area has taken a significant step toward digital transformation with the inauguration of a modern Information Technology Centre dedicated to the memory of late Rt. Hon. Dr. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya.

The facility was commissioned alongside the new Legislative Building and the reconstructed Sode Street in Sabo during a ceremony that brought together local officials, community leaders, and residents.

Executive Chairman Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate emphasized the symbolic importance of the projects during the dedication ceremony, describing them as concrete manifestations of the late lawmaker’s developmental vision.

“These initiatives represent more than infrastructure – they embody the transformative leadership that characterized Ijaya’s tenure,” Odulate stated, addressing the gathering of dignitaries and community members.

The IT Centre is positioned to serve as a cornerstone for youth empowerment and digital literacy in the region, addressing the growing need for technology education and skills development among young residents.

During her legislative service, Onanuga was recognized for implementing community-focused programs that prioritized grassroots development and inclusive governance. The naming of the facility in her honor reflects the lasting impact of her contributions to the Remo region.

Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration received acknowledgment for supporting Onanuga’s initiatives during her tenure, with local officials crediting state-level backing for enabling many of her successful community projects.

The ceremony marked a deliberate shift from traditional memorial approaches, instead focusing on functional infrastructure that addresses current community needs while preserving the honoree’s developmental philosophy.

“This Centre opens new possibilities for our youth to engage with digital opportunities,” Odulate noted, highlighting the facility’s role in bridging the technology gap in the local government area.

The comprehensive nature of the day’s commissioning – encompassing legislative infrastructure, road reconstruction, and technology facilities – demonstrates a holistic approach to community development that mirrors Onanuga’s multi-faceted leadership style.

Sagamu residents expressed optimism about the IT Centre’s potential to enhance educational opportunities and prepare young people for participation in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy.

The initiative aligns with broader national objectives to expand technology access and digital literacy across Nigerian communities, particularly in areas previously underserved by modern infrastructure.

Officials indicated that the IT Centre will offer various programs including computer literacy training, digital skills workshops, and technology entrepreneurship support for local youth and small business owners.

The commissioning ceremony concluded with commitments from local leadership to maintain the facility’s operational standards and ensure its programs remain accessible to community members across different socioeconomic backgrounds.

This development positions Sagamu as a model for how local governments can honor departed leaders through practical infrastructure that addresses contemporary challenges while building toward future opportunities.
