Sagamu hoteliers, security experts, and government officials chart a new course for hospitality excellence in Ogun State

The Hoteliers Association of Nigeria (HAN), Sagamu Zone, closed the year with a dynamic stakeholders’ forum and celebration at Molaroid Hotel, Sagamu, Ogun State, centered on promoting professionalism and enhancing security in the hospitality sector.

The event, themed “Professionalism and Security in the Hospitality Industry,” brought together hotel owners, security operatives, and government representatives to reflect on challenges facing the sector and propose strategic solutions for sustainable growth.

In his welcome address, the Zonal Chairman of HAN Sagamu, Otunba Sunday Oyeyemi, underscored the importance of formalizing hotel operations across the state. He called on the government to enforce regulations that would curb the proliferation of unregistered hotels and ensure fair competition.

“Professionalism is key if we must grow this industry. Regulation is not about control; it’s about structure and credibility. Our goal is to make Sagamu a benchmark for quality service and safety,” said Oyeyemi, who also serves as the CEO of Adebola Prestigious Hotel, Sagamu.

Delivering a keynote on safety, the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police in Sagamu, ACP Akinjide Jones Alabi, highlighted the role of hotels in curbing criminal activities. He urged hotel managers to invest in surveillance systems, verify guest identities, and maintain proper records to aid crime prevention.

“Hotels must not become safe havens for criminals. We are seeing results with ICT-based policing, especially on critical routes like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Sagamu-Benin corridor. Your cooperation is crucial,” Alabi emphasized.

He appealed to authorities to provide essential infrastructure, particularly electricity and security, to support growth in the sector.

“We can only give our best when the system supports us. We’re not asking for favors — just a fair playing field,” he said.

The evening concluded with the presentation of honorary awards to three distinguished hoteliers — Omoba Olujimi Dada, Prince Abdul Wahab Abayomi, and Alhaji Femi Oteju — recognized for their unwavering commitment to the development of the hospitality industry in Sagamu.

Executive council members of HAN Sagamu were also lauded for steering the association through a transformative period marked by advocacy and partnership-building.

With collaboration among industry players, security operatives, and government agencies, the Sagamu hospitality sector is poised for renewed growth and impact.
