Rivers Crisis: Impeaching Fubara Not A Crime – Wike Declares Amid Political Tension

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is not a criminal offence if due process is followed.
Wike made this declaration during a media chat on Wednesday, stressing that impeachment is a constitutional process and should be carried out if Fubara has committed impeachable offenses.
“Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence,” Wike asserted.
His remarks come amid a renewed political crisis in Rivers State, following an ultimatum issued by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, demanding that Fubara re-present the 2025 budget within 48 hours.

The development follows a Supreme Court ruling delivered by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which reinstated 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike, allowing them to resume legislative functions.
With tensions escalating, the battle for political dominance in Rivers State intensifies, leaving observers questioning Fubara’s next move in navigating the crisis.
