Remo Youth Apex Body Hails Supreme Court Judgment On Local Government Autonomy
The Remo Youth Association (RYA) in a press statement released through the Senior Media Aide, Comrade Bashiru Hammed Adewale (Prince Lahbash) by the Association Chairman, Comrade Bidemi Solarin, stated that RYA is thrilled to commend the Supreme Court of Nigeria and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the landmark judgment declaring it unconstitutional for state governments to withhold funds allocated to local governments.
According to RYA Chairman, Com. ‘Bidemi Solarin, “This judgment is a significant milestone in the quest for grassroots development and good governance. It aligns with the spirit and intent of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, which grants statutory rights to the 774 local governments.”
The RYA views this judgment as a fulfillment of President Tinubu’s promise of a “renewed hope agenda” during the election campaign. The organization urges local government administrators to utilize this opportunity to provide essential amenities and services, ensuring transparency and accountability.
“We congratulate the outgoing local government administrators and welcome the incoming ones, wishing them success in piloting the affairs of our dear communities,” Com. Solarin said. “We reiterate our support for the local government administration and urge them to make the best use of this autonomy to deliver on their mandates.”
