Remo Stars stadium ready for CAF competition – Supporters

The Remo Stars Social Football and Friends Club has stated that the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State was ready to host games of the Confederation of African Football Confederation Cup.

The supporters club made this known during a media tour of the stadium facilities and noted that it had been the dream of the Remo Stars fans to see the club play a CAF club competition on home soil.

The Eaglesforesight reports that Remo Stars were drawn against Moroccan side AS FAR, who won the 2010 edition of the CAFCC.

The privately owned Nigerian club finished third in the 2021/2022 season of the Nigeria Professional Football League, the club’s best finish since its founding.

Matches in the first leg of the first preliminary rounds are expected to hold between September 9 and 11, 2022, with the return games scheduled between September 16 and 18.

During the media tour, club officials showed journalists some of the facilities at the Remo Football Academy which include accommodations for junior and senior players, and coaches, a dining/kitchen block for players and officials, and an administrative block that houses offices, conference room, training classroom, reception.

Commenting on the CAFCC, a coordinator of RSFFC, Afolabi Kazeem, said, “The stadium is ready for the continental masterpiece. We are confident of our players and by God’s grace, we will win the cup.

“Like myself, it (RSFFC) has been dreaming to see our beloved club play an intercontinental game on this pitch. Finally, our dream would soon come to reality. I am sure the turnout will be massive and CAF will be proud of us after the game.”

The club’s General Secretary, Michael Onikute, explained that the stadium had hosted big games in the past including NPFL fixtures, FA Cup and the La Liga U-15 tournament.

Also, an official of Remo Stars Social Football and Friends Club, Dehinde Shonibare, noted that former Nigerian internationals and officials of the Nigerian Football Federation had expressed their delight at the standard of the stadium.

“The stadium, our players and management are our pride,” he stated.

On his part, Remo Stars Head Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, highlighted the role of the stadium in the Sky Blue Stars’ qualification for the CAFCC and expressed his readiness to sustain the legacy of the club.

He said, “I am here to keep the legacy and tradition of the club. We are just coming (to CAF Confederation Cup) for the first time in the history of the club.

“Kudos to the club, coach, and technical crew. My biggest target is to win all games as they come. It is not impossible to win.

“The standard of the stadium has contributed tremendously to the success of the team and how we have been able to perform.

“We are not thereby surprised; it is a systematic plan and it has come to pass. It is a great achievement for the club and country. It has been helping tremendously for the success of the club.

“I prefer our home ground. I am sure the management will put in place every necessary thing that would help us to host games here. This is simply the best. The facilities are incomparable with many stadia in the country presently.”
