Queries Dapo Abiodun Must Explain, Alleged 50-Million Naira Mikano Car Gift Rejected By Council Chairmen — Ogun PDP

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has questioned the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun with queries to explain to the public how he got the funds to buy those cars he gifted the 20 Local council bosses, that was embarrassingly rejected by the Chairmen.

Whether the “project” captured in the current budget of ogun state? Did the expenditure pass through the scrutiny of the state legislature? And ultimately, why must Dapo Abiodun, the state governor buy cars for the council chairmen who are supposed to operate and enjoy distinct autonomy as operators of the third tier of government as spelt out in Nigeria’s constitution (as amended). These were the questions thrown at the Governor by the main opposition party for Dapo Abiodun to answer.

“It seems, from all indications, the out-going Prince Dapo Abiodun administration is not in anyway ready to stop its inglorious covenant with shoddy deals. His personality is manifestly taking its toes on the character of the government he runs and leads in Ogun state.”

“Reports in some sections of the media over the weekend confirmed an embarrassing public rejection of 20 units of sub standard, thoroughly-used Mikano cars by all the Local Government council chairmen. This is another eloquent testimony to the fact that all is not well with the internal working structure of government under the watch of Mr. Abiodun.”

“Of course, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is not particular about the internal working concerns of a very opaque government which has continuously refused to work for the common good of the people; we are however, more concerned about the guts of a government that can not, for once, run a decent, transparent business of democratic governance where there is open bids for supply of service vehicles by credible and reputable firms.”

“Apart from obvious inflated prices of those Mikano cars, can the government tell the public who supplied the engines? Was the “project” captured in the current budget of ogun state? Did the expenditure pass through the scrutiny of the state legislature? And ultimately, why must Dapo Abiodun, the state governor buy cars for the council chairmen who are supposed to operate and enjoy distinct autonomy as operators of the third tier of government as spelt out in Nigeria’s constitution (as amended). These are fundamental queries that are begging for answers and explanations from the ruling government.”

“As a matter of fact, this misdemeanour amounts to gross misconduct which is connected with the inflated cost of 50m used to purchase salon car for each of the LG Chairmen. It clearly points to wantom diversion of LG funds by the Dapo Abiodun administration who basks in unquenchable appetite for spending the LG funds without the Council Chairmen and their LG Legislative Council approval. No wonder our LG administration has permanently remained comatose since the birth of APC administration in Ogun state.”

“Without mincing words, we challenge the honourable members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, if there is any honour left in them, to wake up from its slumber and commence impeachment process on the governor in order to save the local government administration from the excruciating claws of Mr. Abiodun. Diversion of local government funds is clearly not just an abuse of office, it is an impeachable offence. This particular infraction on the people must not be allowed to slide just as several others before it.”

“As we have always held, it is only in an atmosphere of full fledge operational autonomy that our local government system can ultimately work to achieve robust rural development for the good people of ogun state. The ruling APC government of Dapo Abiodun must not be allowed to milk our councils dry.”
