Pyrates push for reform in the education sector
The National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity, Ash Montana Deck has called for reform and systemic change in the Nigerian education sector, pointing out that it will help achieve a safe, just and progressive society and future.
The group said in a statement from its capon, Adebesin Ayodele, on Sunday that the country is in dire need of an education system and structure that is constructive and productively forward-looking to position us for the future and create the kind of society we need. wish.
Ayodele added that instead of adopting systems from other climates, Nigeria should come up with a hybrid education system and homegrown policies suited to its unique experience.
The statement read: “Education is essential for a viral society; and without education there will be no civilization and no development. Therefore, the government and all stakeholders must urgently prioritize education for peace and sustainable development.”
The group blamed the problems that complicate education in the country, including the issue of children not attending school, decline in educational development and lack of interest in education among young people, on several factors, including “inequality, poverty, insecurity , infrastructure”. decay, our eroding value systems, violence, and the rather retrogressive, outdated education system and policies that don’t seem to position us to compete globally in the ever-changing and emerging dynamics of the world.
It therefore called on the government and other policy makers to stop paying lip service in addressing the issues that complicate education in Nigeria, adding that there must be a sincerity of purpose in policies, the promises made and their implementation.
It said: “Corruption with its rippling effects is equally at the heart of the problems. Tackling corruption and corrupt practices will go a long way. Governments should do more to reduce poverty and improve families’ living standards; provide social services for the people; provide and/or improve infrastructure in schools.”
The PUNCH reports that the International Day of Education is celebrated worldwide on January 24 to emphasize the importance of education for global peace and sustainable development. This year’s theme was “Investing in people, prioritizing education”.
According to Ayodele, on the occasion of the event, the group adopted the sub-theme: “Reinventing our education system for a secure and progressive future.”
