Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara celebrate 50th birthday anniversary

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the privileges of political office will not sway his values or alter his commitment to serving the state. Unlike other politicians, he vowed to remain grounded and dedicated to the promises he made to the people of Rivers.

Governor Fubara made this declaration when leaders, elders, and stakeholders of Rivers State visited him at the Government House, Port Harcourt, to celebrate his 50th birthday on Tuesday morning.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara revealed that he does not usually mark birthdays. However, the overwhelming show of love and solidarity from state leaders moved him to tears.

“I want to say that I will still be the Fubara that you know; power will not change me. I will still make sure that what I hold dear in life remains, which is God and my respect for people. I will continue to maintain it,” Fubara said.

He added: “Power will come, power will go, but I will still remain the Fubara that you know. With your support, that Rivers State we all yearn for, we will definitely—if not completely—lay the foundation for it. I assure you that I will not do anything or act in any way that will bring disgrace to myself or to you, who have made sacrifices for us.”

Reflecting on the milestone, he said: “This morning is a birthday morning, not a time to discuss politics. It is a morning to say I am happy to have joined the league of old men. I celebrate my Golden Jubilee today, but the most important thing is my gratitude to God and to you for standing by me.”

Governor Fubara, alongside his wife, Lady Valerie, expressed heartfelt thanks to God for His grace and to everyone who made sacrifices to attend the event in his honor.

Former Rivers State Governor Sir Celestine Omehia described Fubara as a “deliverer” of the state, whose leadership continues to safeguard Rivers from those who seek to destabilize it. He commended Fubara’s patience, meticulousness, and unwavering focus on the state’s interests.

“Celebrating this remarkable leader on his 50th birthday is fitting, as he prioritizes the good of Rivers State and relies on divine guidance in governance. Rivers people are proud of him and stand ready to support his administration,” Omehia said.

Similarly, former PDP National Chairman Uche Secondus praised Fubara for his resilience and trust in God despite distractions from his predecessor, whom he described as a self-proclaimed kingmaker.

“Once the king is crowned, the kingmaker must step aside to allow the king to lead. Fubara has shown admirable character, inclusivity, and unity, which reflect his divine mandate,” Secondus added.

The celebration featured prayers for Fubara, a toast, and the cutting of his 50th birthday cake alongside his wife. Elders and stakeholders also presented gifts and performed special birthday songs in his honor, describing him as the “Liberator of Rivers people.”

Later in the day, members of the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, permanent secretaries, service commanders, and other dignitaries visited the governor to extend their best wishes and present gifts as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
