Poll: Police train 612 officers to fight cultism, kidnapping and electoral violence nationwide

In the run-up to the upcoming general election, the Nigeria Police has trained 612 officers from the country’s six geopolitical zones on effective strategies to combat cultism, kidnapping and electoral violence at the polls.

This was stated in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by the Force spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the training, which was held at six different locations in each of the six geopolitical zones, was organized by the Nigerian police in conjunction with Wan Diyos Limited, a consultancy firm, and also featured renowned members of academia. as a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Hashimu Ibrahim Argungu (Rtd.) as a resource.

Police explained that its training workshop explored historical antecedents as well as contemporary problems and solutions to the challenges of cult, kidnapping and election violence in the country.

According to the statement, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba stressed that the training was relevant in light of the upcoming general election to prepare officers to train their men in lively tactics to identify threats to election security management and decimate.

It added that the IGP also assured that the training and retraining of police personnel for electoral security management and professionalism, in all areas of modern policing, would be an ongoing project even after the 2023 general election.

It further added that the Inspector General of Police instructed the trainees to use the expertise gained at the workshop to better manage cult, kidnapping and election-related violence, even though he instructed them to ensure that knowledge flowed to other officers and men serving in their service. respective stations/units for a holistic approach to electoral security management during the 2023 general election for free, fair, credible and acceptable elections.
