Police thwart robbery in FCT, kill suspect

Federal Capital Territory Police Command men thwarted an armed robbery and killed a suspected robber in the Kabusa area of ​​Abuja at about 4:40 am on Saturday. The PUNCH reports.

The prompt police intervention follows an emergency call to the Kabusa Police Division regarding an armed robbery in the ECWA 2 community of Kabusa Village.

According to FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, some of the items on display included a Baretta pistol, a round of 9mm live ammunition, two axes, a cell phone and a silver whistle.

Adeh said: “After receiving the report, the police officers quickly mobilized on the spot in cooperation with the local population, and the thugs opened fire on them when they saw the police squad, and a shootout ensued.

“However, police superior gunfire led to one of the armed robbers being neutralized, while others fled the area with bullet wounds. Efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing cohorts.”

Police further noted that two residents injured by the robbers were taken to hospital upon arrival in the area, where they were treated and discharged, and the robber who was neutralized was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to the police via the following emergency numbers 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883, while the Public Complaints Office counter could be reached on 0902 222 2352.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Sadiq Abubakar has praised residents for their prompt reporting and support to the police. He assured that while efforts are being intensified to prevent any threat to public safety, incidents of crime as such are being appropriately dealt with and promptly nipped in the bud.
