The People’s Democratic Party has reiterated its confidence in its national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced this on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

This was the result of a meeting of the NWC National Working Committee, former state secretaries and zonal publicity secretaries of the party.

The chairman’s leadership was confirmed in a vote of confidence, despite disagreements from some parts of the party and desires for him to step aside as the national chairman.

The PUNCH had reported how Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike met on Sunday with a number of PDP officials, former governors and other party stakeholders.

Wike disagreed with the party’s flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, about the fallout from the party’s special convention last May and the subsequent appointment of Delta’s governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as the party’s vice presidential running mate.

The development did not go well with the Governor of Rivers State and his camp, prompting the party’s chairman to step aside, including reorganizing the party’s executive branch.

But just 24 hours after the party’s board of directors set up a committee to deal with the disagreement between Atiku and Wike, the duo were reportedly met at the residence of Jerry Gana, an expert of the party.

According to the outcome of the meeting, Debo stated that the PDP has decided to “restore confidence in the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, and the NWC National Working Committee in managing the affairs of the party.

The party also “expresses its confidence in ZE Atiku Abubakar’s capacity, experience and ability to save, divert and rebuild this country to earn the respect of the international community.”
