The Edo chapter of the Presidential Campaign Management Committee of the Atiku/Okowa campaign of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) issued certificates of recognition to more than 351 support groups in the state on Wednesday.
Support and volunteer groups included: Edo United for Atiku/Okowa, Grassroots Movement for Atiku 2023; United patrons for Atiku; Isoko Men’s Leaders; Articulated global movement; Nigerian Youth Emancipation Movement; Sanusi Ebira Community and Ebira Women Leaders.
The deputy chairman of the Campaign Council and president of PDP in the state, Tony Aziegbemi, in handing over the certificates, instructed members of each support group to work towards getting 500 votes for the party in the upcoming general election.
Aziegbemi explained that the groups were not part of the party’s structure, but independent groups that worked for Atiku’s victory.
“The party recognized your commitment to the growth and development of this party. Some may not understand the depth.
“We understand what you can give to the party and that is why we ask you to bring 500 votes per support group.
“You have the capacity to reach those places that the party may not be able to reach, which is why we recognize your role,” Aziegbemi said.
Ms. Susan Otekpen, Feputy Director, Volunteer Groups of the Campaign Council, expressed confidence in the ability of the more than 351 support groups to achieve their stated goals.
