PDP Backs Ogun Workers’ Strike, Slams Dapo Abiodun Over Pension Deductions, Wage Disparities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has thrown its full weight behind the indefinite industrial action declared by organised labour in the state, accusing the Governor Dapo Abiodun led administration of gross financial mismanagement, non-remittance of pension deductions, and institutionalised neglect of civil servants.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Otunba (Arc.) Kayode Adebayo, the PDP condemned what it described as the “criminal abuse” of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), alleging that deductions from workers’ salaries spanning over 14 years have not been remitted to the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).
“The government’s failure to remit these deductions is not just a breach of trust—it is a breach of the law and a betrayal of workers’ rights,” the statement read. “This continued plunder of workers’ savings is indefensible and must not be allowed to continue.”
The PDP also decried the wage structure for civil servants in Ogun, calling attention to a glaring disparity in salaries when compared with neighboring Southwest states. According to the opposition party, a Level 7 officer in Ogun State earns a paltry ₦18,787 monthly, compared to ₦60,751 in Lagos, ₦55,952 in Osun, and significantly higher figures in Ondo and Ekiti States.

“This is not a clerical error; it is a systematic strangulation of the state’s workforce, whose contributions sustain the operations of government,” the party stated.
Describing the strike action as both lawful and morally necessary, the PDP called on all stakeholders, including the Ogun State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, and civic leaders, to speak up in defense of transparency, fairness, and justice for the workers.
The party also warned the government against any attempt to intimidate or blackmail civil servants, urging instead a swift and honest resolution to the demands of labour unions.
“This strike is a last resort, driven by years of deceit, neglect, and broken promises. Ogun workers deserve dignity, not propaganda. They deserve justice, not political spin.”
The indefinite strike, which commenced at midnight on July 15, has grounded government activities across the state as unions insist on full payment of outstanding deductions, improved salaries, and a commitment to reforming the pension scheme.
The PDP concluded its statement by reaffirming its unshakable solidarity with Ogun State workers, stressing that the fight for their rights transcends political affiliations and speaks to the soul of justice and governance.
