PDP Alleges Violence, Demands Accountability Over Remo Bye-Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has accused security agencies and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of complicity in widespread violence that marred Saturday’s bye-election in Sagamu, Remo North, and Ikenne Federal Constituency.
According to the opposition party, the exercise was characterised by sporadic gunfire, harassment of voters, and intimidation of electoral officials. The PDP described the incidents as a direct assault on democracy, alleging that thugs loyal to the APC openly disrupted the process under the protection of security operatives.
In a statement signed by its state chairman, Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo, the PDP condemned the role of the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), accusing them of shielding perpetrators instead of protecting voters. The party expressed outrage over the arrest of its chairman in his hotel on election morning, calling it a calculated move to weaken opposition resistance and pave way for electoral manipulation.

“The Dapo Abiodun administration’s failure to check this reign of terror is dragging Ogun back to the dark days of political thuggery,” the PDP alleged. “The people of Remo know who they voted for and witnessed first-hand the intimidation and brigandage unleashed to subvert their mandate.”
The party demanded a full-scale investigation into the conduct of security agencies during the election and called for the immediate release of opposition members allegedly targeted and detained. It also urged civil society organisations, democracy watchdogs, and the international community to pay attention to what it described as “a dangerous precedent” for Ogun State politics.
While insisting it would not be cowed, the PDP reaffirmed its commitment to defending the will of the people. “Enough is enough—this reign of terror must end, and those responsible must face the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.
