In the spirit of refusing to be slowed down by social norms that downgrade women in the society, Hon. Rosheedat Adeola Ajetumobi, former councilorship aspirant from ward 12, Sagamu and her colleague from ward 6 Sagamu, Hon. Aina Adeola kudirat, both as former Councilorship aspirants, has said that the impact of women on society, especially in politics in Nigeria and the world over is second to none.

While speaking in an Interview with Eaglesforesight on Friday, Rosheedat said that for many years, women have faced limitations in the general politcal landscape, resulting from social stigmas that present women as second class citizens.

On what they would do to raise the consciousness of a number of women who were yet to realise their rights, power and potention, the association chairperson said their group were planning to kick start women empowerment workshops in Sagamu, aimed at enlightening women.

”We are going to break the veil of ignorance that have kept many women in the dark; Even though these women are filled with great potentials, they see themselves as being unequal to men and incapacitated to contest politican position.”

Meanwhile, history has proven that our impacts in life and society, especially in politics is second to none.

“Through rigorous enlightenment programs and advocacy, we will bring back an atmosphere of hope to our women in Sagamu and ensure that we attain a level playing ground for all persons aspiring for political postions without gender discrimination.”

“Across the world and even in our immediate Ogun state, women have made great exploits.” Hon. Rosheedat and Hon. Aina Kudirat submitted by making mention of Funmilayo Ransom Kuti, Rosa Parks and Gambo Sawaba who according to her, in their lifetime despite being women transformed their society with their feminine intelligence and energy.”

Further encouraging Sagamu women who seek political office, the chairperson said it is their right as provided by the constitution of the country to vote and be voted for and so they should brace up for the challenge of leadership, adding that women very often make good leaders.

Mr Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun should create more opportunities for women to fully participate and get involved in politics by encouraging and empowering us with political portfolios, Hon. Rosheedat said.

When asked about the role women has been playing to impact the life of our people, the duo mentioned Hon. Commissioner of women affairs in Ogun, Funmi Efuwape and Special Adviser to Ogun state Governor on Culture, Hon. Adijat Motunrayo Adeleye Oladapo had both convince us that we also can do much more better if given the opportunity to serve.
