Osun PDP burned down our office, threatened to kill us – APC leader
The All Progressives Congress in Ede, Osun state, said Monday night they were nearly killed when armed thugs from the state Democratic People’s Party (PDP) attacked its members at their party secretariat in the city, the mansion of incumbent governor Senator Ademola Adeleke. .
One of the party leaders, Mufutau Oyewale, who made this known in a statement in Osogbo, stated that by the grace of God his party members narrowly escaped the Secretariat.
According to him, “the armed thugs invaded their secretariat and launched an attack against the residents of the locality immediately after the election petitions tribunal confirmed the immediately former governor of the state, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, as the authentic winner of the governorship election of July 26 in the state.”
“They went on a rampage shortly after the verdict and set fire to the APC secretariat in Ede-South while that of Ede-North was destroyed. They even threatened to kill us and invade our homes.
However, the statement asked: “How and when did it become a crime for a person to exercise their freedom of association and movement, which are fundamental rights under the existing Constitution of Nigeria?
“Why should it be an abomination for a resident of Ede to be a member of a political party other than the PDP, simply because the party’s gubernatorial candidate is of PDP descent and hails from the ancient city of Ede?
“There are PDP members in Iragbiji, the hometown of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and there have been no incidents of persecution, assault, mutilation and murder of the PDP members and leaders in the old city,” the statement read.
In his response, Osun PDP Chairman Dr. Akindele Adekunle: “Osun APC is raising a false alarm because it was in trouble for trying to steal a popular mandate through the back door.”
“Osun PDP has no data on criminals, unlike APC which has sponsored and nurtured criminals and bandits in Ede and Osun during its four-year rule”.
