Ogun West Youths Challenge APC Over Corruption, Abandoned Projects, and Poor Governance

A growing wave of youth voices from Ogun West Senatorial District has called out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State over what they described as entrenched corruption, incompetence, and unfulfilled promises that have crippled development in the region.

In a strongly worded statement issued by Comrade Jinad Hammed, a youth activist and politician from Atan-Ota, the group accused the APC-led government of neglecting critical infrastructure projects and diverting public resources while leaving the people—especially the youths—struggling under economic hardship and poor governance.

The statement cited the abandoned Atan–Lusada–Igbesa–Agbara road project as a glaring example of government failure.

According to available records, the 62-kilometre dual carriageway was awarded in 2020 under a ₦23 billion Public-Private Partnership arrangement and was flagged off by Governor Dapo Abiodun in April 2021 with a 15-month completion promise.

“Four years later, the project remains in limbo,” Jinad stated. “Contractors have vacated the site, no equipment is visible, and the completed sections are already deteriorating. This is not just an infrastructural failure; it is a betrayal of trust.”

The Concerned Atan-Lusada-Agbara Youths Group (CALAYG) had earlier raised alarms about the abandonment, warning that the corridor—one of Nigeria’s largest industrial hubs—is being crippled by poor road networks and lack of government commitment.

The Ogun West youths also drew attention to several high-profile corruption allegations within the APC structure. Among them is the controversy surrounding Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), accused by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of diverting funds meant for the construction of the Ake Pavilion.

“Projects are announced with fanfare but never delivered. This pattern of deceit has become the identity of governance in Ogun State,” the statement read.

Similarly, the group referenced the ₦10.8 billion local government fund diversion allegation, raised by former Ijebu East Chairman, Wale Adedayo, which reportedly prompted investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Though the state government denied the accusation, Jinad said the matter remains a blemish on the administration’s credibility.

The statement emphasized that the consequences of these failures weigh most heavily on young people, who face limited access to jobs, decaying infrastructure, and a growing sense of disenfranchisement.

“When industries relocate due to bad roads or poor power supply, it is the youth who lose jobs. When funds meant for community development are siphoned, it is the youth who are denied opportunities,” Jinad lamented.

He added that the government’s habit of offering “token empowerment and stipends” instead of real investment in human capital is both “demeaning and counterproductive.”

Calling for a paradigm shift, Comrade Jinad Hammed urged Ogun West youths to take ownership of their political destiny through active participation, accountability, and leadership.

“We cannot continue recycling leaders whose only legacy is unfulfilled promises and political deception,” he declared. “Our generation must rise—not for token appointments, but to redefine governance with transparency, innovation, and integrity.”

He further stated that youth leadership represents a new era of accountability, one that will prioritize project monitoring, data-driven budgeting, and inclusive governance over partisan loyalty.

The activist called on Ogun West youths to demand evidence of governance through open contracts, verified timelines, and transparent expenditures.

“Let us stop being spectators in our own story,” he said. “We must build an Ogun West where roads work, industries thrive, and leadership serves—not rules—its people.”
