Ogun LG Poll: NSCDC Assures Of Adequate Security

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has assured electorates of adequate security arrangement, to ensure peaceful and credib conduct of  councils’poll holding this Saturday in Ogun State 

The new Commandant of the Corps, Commander Kolawole Taiwo gave the assurance over the weekend during a familiarization visit to Oke-Ilewo Ibara Office of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) in Abeokuta 

He revealed that the Command’s operatives had already indentified  some flash points based on intelligence gathered and started working on them to nip it in the bud

“I consider it very needful to visit the Commission to familiarize myself with it having resumed in Ogun State few weeks back, more so, that Ogun State is planning to conduct Local Government elections, I want to assure you of our total support to ensure the security of lives and property during the elections as our men have already started working based on the intelligence that we have. We have identified some flash points and we have started working to nip any ugly occurrence in the bud”, he said.

Taiwo restated commitment of the corps in  sustaining mutual relationship through synergy with the commission to ensure success of this Saturday 2021 Local Government elections.

Responding, OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu expressed delight at the visit, stating that the NSCDC had been an ardent supporter of the Commission 

Osibodu appreciated the Corps for heeding to the request of the Commission by providing it with security personnel as well training of OGSIEC top management and other staff on personal security.

The OGSIEC boss commended the NSCDC for its personnel posted to the Commission for professionalism and proactiveness in the discharge of their duties

“We  see you as worthy partners in the forthcoming elections, ”Osibodu stated 

Meanwhile the State Independent Electoral Commission OGSIEC has re-assured political parties and electorates of credible local government elections

The OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu made the promise over the weekend during the Agency’s parley with the media ahead of this Saturday

 He described media as a very crucial stakeholder in engendering free, fair and credible elections as its role cannot be overestimated.

The recently put together a media parley, to appreciate the media, evaluate and further brainstorm on its preparation for the exercise.

Osibodu noted that it was necessary to recognize the immense contribution of the media in sensitizing the people, saying, without the media, the people will not be aware of the activities of the Commission.

“I want you to know that we owe you in high esteem, we recognize you as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, your role in elections cannot be overemphasized. Without the Media, the people will not know that election is holding on 24th of July, let alone be aware of our preparations and the need to know what is expected of the people on the day of the elections. With your support and ardent backing for us as a Commission, we know the people of Ogun State will further hear us loud and clear, we are rest assured that the people trust you to give them the news as it is.”, Osibodu said.

The OGSIEC boss stated that the Commission was intensifying efforts to ensure that voter education is extended to the hinterland and to the people at the grassroots, making use of posters and  jingles in English, Yoruba as well as Egun Languages, adding that Paramount Rulers and other Traditional Rulers had been visited to help propagate the gospel of free, fair and credible elections.

In their separate remarks, the General Manager, Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Mrs. Toyin Sogbesan, Secretary, State Media Analysis Team, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka as well as Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Ogun State Council, Mr. Soji Amosun, appreciated the Commission for its robust media engagements, calling for security of journalists during the elections, sustenance of the momentum by intensifying voter education.

The event was attended by Commissioners and top management of OGSIEC, media personalities from the electronic and print media, Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) as well as online news publication
