The Ogun State Government has released 130 hectares of land along the Epe/Mojoda Expressway, Ijebu-Ode, to the Federal Government for the establishment of the Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port Terminal.

The approval follows a formal request by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, in a letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun dated June 26, 2025.

Analysts describe the project as a major boost to national trade, economic growth, and industrial development. It is expected to ease congestion around the Lagos Port system, enhance Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and strengthen Ogun State’s industrial hub agenda. The facility will also function as a cargo consolidation and distribution hub for the South-West region, further promoting trade efficiency.

The dry port, to be linked to the Lekki Deep Sea Port via rail, will connect seamlessly with the proposed Kajola and Moniya Ibadan Dry Ports as well as the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport. Located within the Ijebu-Ode Economic Development Cluster, it is projected to reduce production costs through efficient logistics, thereby attracting more industrial investment.

Speaking on the development, Governor Abiodun said:

“The Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port and the Gateway International Airport are critical enablers of industrialization and regional competitiveness. Together, they will transform Ogun State into a logistics and economic powerhouse, creating prosperity for our people and opportunities for Nigeria at large.”

With the Kajola Inland Dry Port already secured for the Ogun Central Industrial Cluster, the approval of the Ijebu-Ode port positions Ogun to achieve balanced industrial growth across its three senatorial districts.

It will be recalled that in January, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the establishment of Inland Dry Ports in Ijebu-Ode (Ogun State) and Moniya (Oyo State) as part of measures to decongest Lagos seaports, eliminate delays, and strengthen the nation’s economy.

During his 2025 budget defence before the National Assembly Joint Committee on Marine Transport, Minister Oyetola highlighted that the projects would generate thousands of jobs for youths across Ogun, Oyo, and the wider South-West. He added that design consultancies for the dry ports are ongoing and assured that delivery will be fast-tracked.

The minister also acknowledged persistent challenges in the maritime sector, including infrastructure decay, silted waterways, inadequate fish production, and shortage of river crafts. According to him, the ministry is initiating several projects to address these deficiencies and reposition the marine and blue economy for national development.
