OGSG Reiterates Commitment To Tourism Development

Governor Dapo Abiodun led government is open to partnership with investors to upgrade tourist sites and unlock the potential in the tourism sector, to further promote its development in the State.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi, stated this while welcoming delegate of Miss Tourism Africa 2024, representing their various countries, led by the Founder of Qhue Concept, Mr. Santiago Roberts, who were on tour to the state, saying the visit signalled a strong international interest in the state’s tourism landscape.

  Hon. Fagbayi informed that the state boasts of over 60 tourist sites, comprising private and government-owned facilities, just as it is blessed with rich cultural heritage, traditions and tourism potential which could contribute positively to economic growth, intimated that the state had about 35 cultural activities lined up in the yearly Cultural Calendar, to promote, preserve and sustain the states’ rich cultural heritage.

While promising that the state would not relent to invest in the industry, the Commissioner explained that the state operates a combined Culture and Tourism Ministry and had been able to propagate each sector effectively and efficiently.

“I welcome you all to our dear state; you are in a state that is friendly, accommodating, serene and healthy, with high level of hospitality. You have made us proud with this visit. I believe this will help to promote Ogun State tourism to the outside world”, he said.

He appreciated the Bola Tinubu-led government for uplifting and upgrading the sector, towards making the nation a tourist destination of choice in Africa, noting that splitting the Federal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy was one of the interventions by the Federal government, aimed at focusing on and giving each sector the deserved attention, which had been yielding positive results.

Speaking earlier, Mr. Roberts explained that the state was chosen due to its rich cultural heritage, magnificent beauty of Abeokuta city, in order to showcase the tourism potential in the state to the representatives from different countries and the outside world.
