Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has once again demonstrated his commitment to human capital development through an intensive training and empowerment program in the Aquaculture Value Chain. In collaboration with the National Productivity Centre, the initiative targeted youths and women across Ogun East, equipping them with skills in fish farming, processing, and marketing. The program, held in Ijebu-Ode, is part of OGD’s broader vision to foster self-sufficiency, job creation, and economic growth in the region.

Speaking at the event, Senator Daniel emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in aquaculture, as a means to reduce unemployment and enhance food security. He noted that the global demand for fish and seafood products continues to rise, presenting lucrative opportunities for trained individuals. The senator also commended the National Productivity Centre for its partnership and dedication to boosting productivity among Nigerians. Participants received hands-on training from industry experts, covering modern fish farming techniques, value addition, and business management.

The empowerment program did not end with training alone; Senator Daniel ensured that beneficiaries received startup kits, including fish fingerlings, feeds, and essential aquaculture equipment, to kickstart their businesses.

This, he explained, was to prevent the common challenge of post-training setbacks due to a lack of capital and resources. He urged beneficiaries to maximize the opportunity and apply the knowledge gained to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local economy.

Dignitaries, community leaders, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to transform the economic landscape of Ogun East. Many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, sharing their enthusiasm for the future. One of the participants, a young entrepreneur from Ijebu-Igbo, stated that the training had given her a new perspective on agribusiness and how to scale her fish farming venture.

With this latest empowerment initiative, Senator Gbenga Daniel has once again reinforced his reputation as a leader dedicated to the progress of his constituents. As more youths and women embrace aquaculture, the long-term impact of the program is expected to boost local fish production, enhance food security, and create sustainable employment opportunities across Ogun East.
